Steps to import data from a website into Excel
Step 1: Select the data source
In the Excel spreadsheet -> Click on the Data tab > Get Data > Select From Other Sources
Then, click From Web to choose and extract tabular data from a website.
Note: There are multiple ways to import data from a website into Excel. In this example, Tinhocmos selects data from a website.
Step 2: Enter the website URL
After selecting, a command box “From Web” will appear in the spreadsheet. Here, you only need to enter or copy the website URL into the From Web window -> Then click OK
At this point, Excel will navigate to the website data you need to extract.
Step 3: Select the data table
At this step, Excel will filter and display tables containing data that can be imported into the file.
You just need to preview and select the table you want. Then, to transfer the table into Excel, expand Load, where there are two options:
- Load: To import the data at the current cursor position in Excel
- Load to: To choose where you want to place the imported data in Excel
If selecting Load to, Excel will switch to the Import Data window, allowing for more customization. You can choose the data placement at “Where do you want to put the data”, with two options:
- Existing worksheet: To choose a position in the current sheet
- New worksheet: To insert the data into a new sheet
Step 4: Check and edit the data
After selecting the placement for the imported data, the result will appear as shown below. The data will automatically be in table format for easy editing.
If you need to update the data table, place the cursor inside the table, then go to the Data tab > Refresh All.
